Every family has a table that exists somewhere in memory. Not because of the wood it was carved from, the chairs that surrounded it, or the room where it lived, but because of the stories it carried.
For generations, the table has been where life unfolds. Where birthdays are celebrated. Where hard conversations are held. Where laughter echoes long after the dishes are cleared. Where grief is shared, dreams are spoken aloud, and wisdom is passed from one generation to the next.
While filming this week in Louisiana, I was reminded that our first archive is rarely a bookshelf. It is often a table. A place where storytellers are shaped before they ever pick up a pen. A place where family history is preserved through the voices, memories, and moments that deserve to be remembered.
This first chapter of Field Notes: From Louisiana is a celebration of family, legacy, and the responsibility we have to pour inspiration into the storytellers of tomorrow. Because every story begins somewhere. And sometimes, it begins gathered around the table.
